Redcross was established in 1863 by Jean Henry Dunant in Geneva, Switzerland, the father of Redcross movement and receipient of noble award for peace in 1901. The Indian Redcross is a voluntary humanitarian organization having a network of 700 branches throughout the country, providing relief in times of disasters/emergencies and promotes health and care of the vulnerable people and communities.

Students in colleges and those aged 18-30 years of age may join the youth Redcross. Youth represents a substantial part of the membership of Redcross for its humanitarian commitment. Young volunteers can make a significant contribution to meeting the needs of the most vulnerable people within their local communities through Redcross program.
